Current and Recent Committee Activities

1)  Committee currently working to comprise a Thoracic Curriculum within the ASTS Academic Universe

2) Working to develop interactions with the NIH to advance thoracic transplantation research like the RFA AI-04-049 entitled "Non-Human Primate Heart/Lung Transplantation Tolerance"

3)  Helped facilitate the "Crystal City" initiatives to maximize the use of hearts/lungs recovered from deceased donors at the local and regional levels

4) Worked with UNOS on the ACOT Heart Utilization Initiative

5) Worked with JCAHO on development of Medicare standards for facilities doing destination ventricular assist device implants 

6) Worked with the STS on the 4^th annual joint ASTS/STS Symposium at the Society of Thoracic Surgeons meeting

7) Working to increase regular, international and associate members in the ASTS
