Description	As part of its mission to promote career development, the ASTS will provide bridge funding for one year for an ASTS Member who submitted a highly meritorious K08 or K23 grant application that the NIAID is unable to fund. The ASTS then expects the investigator to begin work on his/her project and to reapply for the K award in keeping with the reviewers' suggestions.
Amount	$50,000 per year for 1 year
Funds Support	Supports research costs and percent effort salary support No indirects will be paid
Applicant Eligibility	ASTS Member (Regular or Candidate Member) Junior surgical faculty appointment at an established UNOS approved transplant center. Submission of a highly meritorious NIAID/NIH K08 or K23 grant application that the NIAID was unable to fund.
Other Requirements	Applicant must submit a copy of the grant application and the summary sheet with reviewer recommendations that the investigator believes are achievable within one year. The Awardee must attend the ASTS Awards Ceremony at the following ATC to formally accept the award. An abstract must be submitted for presentation at an ATC or ASTS Winter Symposium during the award period or within 6 months of award completion
Other	One award available annually. Review of applications will coincide with the NIAID grant application cycle and applications may be considered during multiple cycles if desired. * The funding of ASTS research awards is contingent upon the availability of funds and the receipt of qualified applications.
