Instructions to Applicants

Submission Deadline:  January 8, 2008

Who Can Submit

All applicants must reside in North America and either be an ASTS Member or, in limited circumstances, sponsored by an ASTS Member.   Please review the eligibility requirements for each specific award to determine if you are an appropriate applicant. 

When To Submit

Applications must be submitted electronically no later than January 8, 2008.

What To Submit

Each award has specific submission requirements that will display as a checklist in the online application.  When applicable, use the following guidelines:

• Narrative:  Maximum of three pages, including references, plus one page of graphics.  State the reason for application, specific objectives for the duration of the award, and future plans and goals.  Exception:  ASTS-Roche Presidential Student Mentor Award.  For this award, the narrative should be no longer than 500 words and must explain the proposed research.  It is understood that the medical student/applicant will have significant input from the ASTS member sponsor for the narrative.
• Autobiography:  Maximum 1 page that explains your educational background, choice of career and dedication to transplantation and research.
• Nomination Letters:  Two required.  One from the applicant's Department Chair at the institution where the research will be conducted and one from the ASTS member sponsor.  The letters should include objectives and plans of the applicant during the funding period.
• Budget:  Maximum 1/2 page.
• CV:  Provide an up-to-date curriculum vitae and bibliography of applicant

Review the awards and eligibility requirements, choose the appropriate award, and complete the online application.

Review Process

Applications are reviewed by Awards Committee Members and a Review Subcommittee comprised of at-large ASTS Members with extensive research experience.   Proposals are reviewed and eligible applicants are judged on a variety of criteria including:  Significance, Approach, Innovation, Investigator and Environment. 

Applicants must be available to meet with Awards Committee Members if requested.
