On this day, we honor the life and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose call to justice remains as relevant and urgent as ever.
Dr. King reminded us that "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny."
The field of transplantation also exists in an inescapable network of life and death; donation and transplantation; and organ damage and restoration of function. Our field is sustained by the generosity of donors from every background and the dedication of a vibrant community of colleagues who have come to serve patients in need. The gift of life knows no bounds.
We reaffirm our commitment to all patients, families, and colleagues, who place their trust in us. We stand with our neighbors, trainees, and fellow physicians who strengthen our profession and our communities.
Since "the time is always right to do what is right,” let us honor his legacy today and tomorrow. As a society, we recommit ourselves to the belief that every life is worthy of our finest care.
