This program is designed for healthcare professionals who provide patient care at all levels in transplantation. The course is designed for, but not limited to surgeons, hepatologists, nephrologists, nurses, social workers, and pharmacists.
The University of Colorado faculty and guest speakers will address controversial topics in transplantation, organ allocation, standardizing DCD procurement, and the role of robotic surgery.
Objectives: At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:
1) Assess the challenges of redesigning the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network.
2) Formulate standards for donation after circulatory death procurement to maximize organ utilization.
3) Identify the role of regenerative medicine and how it may impact the future of transplantation.
4) Describe the role of robotic surgery in donor nephrectomy and hepatectomy and kidney and pancreas transplantation.
5) Identify relevant issues in providing value based care in liver transplantation.
