Brought to you by the ASTS Cellular Transplantation Advisory Committee
Speakers: Piotr Witkowski MD, PhD and Melena Bellin, MD
Patients with problematic hypoglycemia are often desperate for options, and many seek allo-islet transplantation. Unlike the success the field has reached around the world, it is nearing demise in the United States. Relatedly, the field of total pancreatectomy with autologous islet transplantation (TPAIT) has seen many recent changes, and is now considered a standard intervention across the nation for patients with chronic pancreatitis. In this webinar, two leaders in islet transplantation, Drs. Piotr Witkowski and Melena Bellin provide contrast to these strikingly similar fields that are currently experiencing quite different fates. They will summarize their recent progress and provide their perspectives on the future of allo- and auto-islet transplantation. Webinar registrants will be able to participate in a live Q&A session.
