Abdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion (A-NRP) Workshop

Abdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion (A-NRP) Workshop

The A-NRP Workshop took place on December 5, 2025 at the Southwest Transplant Alliance Legacy Center - stay tuned for information on future workshops!

Overview:

Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) is a procurement technique that increases the viability and quality of organs recovered from donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors. Abdominal NRP (A-NRP) is a procurement strategy that perfuses only the abdominal organs and has the ability to expand beyond the traditional TA-NRP donor pool. Baylor University Medical Center and Southwest Transplant Alliance have partnered to successfully create a robust A-NRP program with standard policies and procedures, that has led to increased DCD organ utilization. This part didactic, part hands on workshop will teach attendees how to start and sustain an A-NRP program and how to develop strong collaborative A-NRP protocols and policies.

Who Should Attend:

Abdominal transplant and procurement surgeons, OPO clinical leadership and staff, perfusionists, and any clinician or administrative staff interested in learning more about utilizing A-NRP for organ recoveries.

Objectives:

  • Establish financial and programmatic considerations for starting an A-NRP program.
  • Master the basics needed to utilize A-NRP in organ recoveries.
  • Practice techniques for cannulation and troubleshooting A-NRP.
