montgomery (2)ASTS is proud to celebrate Robert Montgomery, MD, PhD, a trailblazing surgeon and leader, for being named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025!

  • Performing the incredible pig-to-human kidney transplant in 2024, where recipient Towana Looney was able to live without dialysis for over four months.

Dr. Montgomery has been a dedicated member of the ASTS community, serving on the American Transplant Congress (ATC) Planning Committee and the Living Donation Committee before joining the ASTS Council in 2024.

"This is a wonderful, unexpected honor.  I am very grateful to the selection committee and Time Magazine for calling out the importance of advances in transplantation as being foundational in medicine and health.  The body of work highlighted was produced by teamwork and many innovators have made important contributions to it."
