Secretary

Matthew Levine, MD, PhD

The Donald Guthrie Professor of Surgery III, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Surgical Director, Transplant Services and Kidney Transplantation, CHOP, Executive Council, Penn Transplant Institute Center for Transplant Science and Innovation

Dr. Levine brings three years of experience on the ASTS Council to his new role as Secretary. He attended medical school at Yale University School of Medicine before completing his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr.  Levine has been a member of ASTS for nearly 20 years and, during that time, has served on multiple committees, including the ATC Planning Committee, the Professional Development Committee, and the Winter Symposium Planning Committee, before joining the ASTS Council in 2023.

Associate Councilor

Eliana Agudelo, MS, PA-C

Senior PA
University of California San Francisco

Eliana Agudelo earned her physician assistant degree from St. John’s University, with a concentration in general surgery. After receiving her postgraduate degree, she completed a hepatology fellowship with the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

She has been an ASTS member since 2009 and has served on multiple committees, including the Advanced Practice Providers Committee, where she also served as Chair, and the Curriculum Committee, where she served as Associate Member Liaison.

Councilors-at-Large

Amit Mathur, MD, MS

Professor of Surgery, Surgical Director, Liver Transplantation, Mayo Clinic in Arizona

Dr. Mathur attended medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine before completing his residency at the University of Michigan, where he also completed a multi-organ abdominal transplant fellowship.

In 2020, he received the ASTS Foundation Vanguard Prize, which recognizes exceptional work in basic and clinical research. He also received the ASTS Foundation Rising Star in Transplantation Award, which is given to ASTS members who have made significant and transformative contributions to transplantation. During his time with ASTS, he has served on multiple committees, including the TACC Oral Exam Committee, the Living Donation Committee, where he also served as Chair, and the Legislative and Regulatory Committee, where he also served as Vice Chair.

Satish Nadig, MD, PhD

Edward G. Elcock Professor of Surgery, Immunology, and Pediatrics Director, Comprehensive Transplant Center Chief, Division of Transplant Surgery Northwestern University

 Dr. Nadig attended medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Health Professions. Prior to starting his residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, he earned a PhD in immunology from Balliol College, University of Oxford.

In 2025, Dr. Nadig was awarded the TransMedics Faculty Perfusion Grant for his research project entitled Liver Regeneration Using Normothermic Machine Perfusion: New Perspectives on Old Problems. During his tenure as an ASTS member, he has served as Chair of both the Surgeon Scientist Committee and the Communications Committee, and as Co-Chair of the ATC Planning Committee.

Steven Potter, MD

Professor of Surgery and Urology Director, Pancreas Transplantation Medstar Georgetown Transplant Institute Georgetown University School of Medicine

Dr. Potter attended medical school at the University of California, Los Angeles, before completing his residency at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed two fellowships at the University Hospital–Cincinnati and the University of Minnesota Medical School.

His clinical interests include living and deceased donor kidney transplantation, pancreas transplantation, laparoscopic living donor kidney surgery, and more.

During his time as an ASTS member, Dr. Potter has served on multiple committees and strike forces, including the Legislative and Regulatory Committee, where he served as Chair, the Strategic Planning Strike Force, and the CMMI Strike Force.
