Winter Symposium Abstract

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the submission fee?

There is no fee to submit your abstract. However, in order to receive the discounted registration rate for Winter Symposium, you must be a member of ASTS. Click here to learn more about membership!

How do I submit my abstract?

All submissions will be done electronically through our abstract portal. Link will be posted here once abstract submission is open.

How many abstracts can I submit?

There is no limit on the number of abstracts you can submit. However, a presenting author can only have 2 accepted posters and can only be considered for 1 oral abstract presentation.

How are abstracts reviewed and ranked?

All abstracts are blinded for peer review and ranked based on scientific merit. The goal is to perform a scientifically rigorous review process to select abstracts that present strong, balanced, and evidence-based clinical content, without the perception of bias.

The submission of abstracts related to clinical or basic research, surgical technique, or surgical practice that is new, innovative, or visionary is encouraged. Abstracts that address basic but controversial aspects of surgical management are also encouraged. Select abstracts will be accepted for oral, mini-oral, or poster presentations.

What are the evaluation criteria used during the review process?

Abstract evaluations are based on the following:

  • Originality: Is the idea truly different?
  • Methods: How were the methods described? How reliable and valid were the methods used? Were new or untried methods validated and calibrated properly?
  • Analysis: What was done with the date once obtained? Were statistical methods used, if necessary, and were they appropriate?
  • Results: How valid are the results? Are they feasible? How well are they described?
  • Conclusions: Were conclusions drawn? Were the conclusions appropriate to the questions asked? Were the conclusions valid?
  • Writing: Is the style grammatically correct and is the paper presented in a well-organized, clear, and understandable fashion?

I can't make it to the meeting. Can someone else present my poster?

If the submitter can't make it to the meeting, a colleague can present the poster. The poster presenter must be directly involved with the research. Please notify us at education@asts.org with this change.

What is the required dimension for posters?

The poster board area is 4 feet high by 4 feet wide, so that is the maximum size we allow posters to be in. Please do not exceed that dimension. For more details about posters, please visit our poster information page.

My abstract has been accepted, but now I need to withdraw it from the program. What should I do?

The submitter/presenting author must notify ASTS at education@asts.org in writing to withdraw the abstract that has been accepted. Withdrawn abstracts cannot be reinstated.

I forgot to add a co-author(s) to my abstract. Can I still add them?

We cannot guarantee if we are able to add additional authors. However, please email education@asts.org with this request. If the abstracts are in the process of publication, we cannot add additional authors.

Can I submit a video abstract?

We are not accepting video abstracts.

When will I be notified?

All individuals who submit abstracts will be notified by end of October if their abstract has been accepted for oral or poster. You will also be notified if you abstract is not selected for presentation. Please note that if your abstract was accepted, and you did not specifically decline it by the deadline, your abstract WILL still be published in the January ASTS supplement of American Journal of Transplantation (AJT).

All abstract presenters must register for and attend the ASTS 26th Annual Winter Symposium. Trainee members of ASTS will receive discounted registration for the Winter Symposium. You must be a member to receive the discounted registration rate.
